Malcolm Nance Shreds Fox News For Creating National Security Crisis By Defending Don Jr. Meeting

Counterterrorism expert Malcolm Nance said Fox News is creating a national security crisis by defending Donald Trump Jr.’s secret meeting with a Russian lawyer during last year’s campaign and spreading propaganda to Trump supporters.

On MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes on Monday, Nance said, “We’ve got a very serious propaganda problem going on.”

Video:

Nance shredded the propaganda being spread by Trump supporters of the secret Russia meeting after seeing the Fox News clip in which Judge Jeanine Pirro said, “If the devil called me and said he wanted to set up a meeting to give me opposition research on my opponent, I’d be on the first trolley to hell to get it.”

After laughing, Nance unloaded:

If this is the strategy that they’re going to go to – if we start seeing a solid shift to Judge Pirro’s strategy and their going to start positively saying that foreign operatives or foreign intelligence officers are legitimate – then we have got a crisis in national security going on. That means, you know, these people do not care about the laws regarding the national security of the United States. And, at that point, that means they’re probably covering up something very bad. … This is not good in any optics, but like you said, they’re playing to 25 percent, and they’re trying to show that this activity is actually patriotic. … We’ve got a very serious propaganda problem going on if this is the case.

Not only are the right-wing media and Trump administration lying when they repeatedly change their stories on the Russia scandal whenever a new piece of damning information is uncovered, but their continued willingness to defend the indefensible and let the administration off the hook for colluding with a foreign adversary is unpatriotic.

Fox News isn’t just peddling lies on an hourly basis to help Trump, but their lies are creating an entire faction of the country that lives in the alternative reality created by the right-wing propaganda network – a reality in which it’s okay for the President of the United States to side with Russia over the country he was elected to represent.

As Nance noted on Monday, that’s about as dangerous as it gets for American democracy.
