Republicans took to the Sunday shows and came up with a lie that they thought no one would notice. From Trump HHS Secretary Tom Price to sitting US Senators like Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Republicans are lying and claiming that no one will lose their health insurance under Trumpcare.
On CNN’s State of the Union, Sec. Price said, “What — and what I’m telling you is that the system, the plan that we have, would put in place would not allow individuals to fall through the cracks, would not — we would not pull the rug out from under anybody. We would not have individuals lose coverage that they want for themselves and for their family.”
Video of Price:
The Medicaid cuts will be pulling the rug out from at least 14 million people, and at least another 9 million will lose their coverage if Republicans cut or get rid of the subsidies.
Not to be outdone by Price, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) claimed that the Senate health care bill made the Medicaid expansion permanent:
Toomey said on CBS’s Face The Nation, “The Senate bill will codify and make permanent the Medicaid expansion…..No one loses coverage.”
Sen. Toomey was lying. People will lose coverage because the Senate bill cuts more than a trillion dollars from Medicaid. Republicans don’t keep the expansion in place, and they slash funding to the program. In no way was what Toomey said true.
Trump White House adviser Kellyanne Conway took a different approach. She denied that Medicaid cuts even existed:
Conway said on ABC’s This Week, “These are not cuts to Medicaid, George. This slows the rate for the future and it allows governors more flexibility with Medicaid dollars because they’re closest to the people in need. Medicaid’s imperative, its founding was meant to help the poor, the sick, the needy, the disabled children, some elderly women, particularly pregnant women. We are trying to get Medicaid back to its original moorings.”
Republicans can’t defend this terrible bill, so they are resorting to lying about the most basics facts related to the bill. The Trump administration and Senate Republicans are selling the fantasy that they are going to cut funding to Medicaid and reduce ACA subsidies and no one is going to lose their coverage.
The bill is so bad that the only Republicans can speak about it publicly is to lie.
