In a statement on social media, Trump incriminated himself on Russia by strongly denied that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election but blaming Obama for Russian meddling that the President says never happened.
Trump tweeted:
Donald Trump is a typical conspiracy theorist. Trump both denies any election interference from Russia but also looks to cast blame on a political opponent if there was election interference. His statement contradicts itself and doesn’t make sense because Obama did do something about Russian election interference. The question of whether the Obama administration did enough is up for debate, but Trump’s assertion that the Obama administration sat on their hands while Russia interfered in the election was false.
For some reason, Donald Trump is personally heavily invested in denying that Russia interfered with the 2016 election. If Russia interfered, but the Trump campaign wasn’t involved the administration would cooperate with the investigation to get to the bottom of what happened and to make sure that it couldn’t happen again.
Trump’s constant Russia denial should raise the curiosity of investigators. The President isn’t acting like an innocent man. His efforts to blame Obama for an event that he claims never happened reek of someone who is trying to muddy the waters to hide their own guilt.
With each tweet, Donald Trump is digging himself in deeper and providing a motive for his criminal obstruction of justice.
