NBC Owned Station That Serves Newtown, CT Won’t Air Megyn Kelly/Alex Jones Interview

The NBC station that serves the town where the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre took place will not be airing Megyn Kelly’s interview with Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Sunday.

TVNewser published the internal memo from WVIT:

Whenever there is news regarding the Sandy Hook tragedy, we know that the pain resurfaces for our community, our viewers and for you, our colleagues at WVIT. Over the last few days, we have listened intently to Sandy Hook parents, our viewers and importantly, to you. We have considered the deep emotions from the wounds of that day that have yet to heal.

Because those wounds are understandably still so raw, we have decided not to air this week’s episode of Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly. We will continue our local coverage, including a special report on our Sunday 11 pm newscast, which includes Sandy Hook parents, Governor Malloy and others who work to affect change around violence and mental illness. For those in our viewing area who still wish to see the show, it will be available Monday on NBCNews.com.

Thank you for voicing your concerns and feelings.

The interesting twist to this story is that WVIT is owned by NBC, which brings up the question if an NBC-owned affiliate won’t air the interview, why is the interview airing at all? It is plain to see what kind of journalistic competition Kelly is going to be against CBS’s 60 Minutes. Instead of delivering quality current events programming, Kelly and NBC are giving a platform to a Trump supporting conspiracy theorist who pushes fake news.

Alex Jones should not be mainstreamed in America so that NBC and Megyn Kelly can try to pop a big ratings number.

The rest of the country should follow the lead of WVIT and not watch. Send Kelly and NBC a message with remote controls that a person like Alex Jones does not belong on national network television.

The victims of Sandy Hook and the country at large deserve better than any interview with Alex Jones.
