House Oversight Democrats outsmarted the Trump administration’s attempts to ignore their requests for documents the seven-member rule which requires compliance with document requests from any seven members of the House Oversight Committee.
In a letter, the House Oversight Democrats explained the rule and demanded the documents for Trump’s D.C. hotel:
….
Trump’s DC hotel is operating through a government lease and goes to the heart of Trump’s conflicts of interest and potential Emoluments Clause violations. The Trump Organization is not tracking payments that it receives from governments, and Trump’s hotel has been flooded with spending from foreign governments and agents of foreign governments.
The Trump White House is trying to rewrite the rules on Executive Branch oversight. House Oversight Democrats say that if the Trump administration refuses to comply with their request, they will take the President to court. Trump’s conflicts of interest deserve their own special prosecutor, but the efforts of the Democrats are a reminder that the facts will eventually emerge about every conflict of interest that Trump is trying to hide.
