MoveOn Civic Action and United To Protect Democracy have sent a letter to the Department of Justice urging an immediate investigation into White House senior adviser and presidential son in law Jared Kushner for undisclosed contacts with Russia.
The letter states, “On behalf of the 8 million supporters of MoveOn Civic Action across the U.S. and the organization United to Protect Democracy, we are writing to request that the Department of Justice, if it has not already done so, initiate an immediate investigation into whether White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner committed a federal felony, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §1001, by repeatedly failing to disclose multiple contacts with representatives of the Government of the Russian Federation.”
The organizations list five specific reported contacts that Kushner did not disclose.
It also points out that the DOJ has prosecuted similar cases in the past, “The Department of Justice, of course, has prosecuted numerous cases under this statute, 18 U.S.C. §1001, involving far less consequential false statements. See, e.g., United States v. Riccio, 529 F.3d 40 (2008) (defendant prosecuted for leaving prior employment at Wal-Mart off his SF-86 form when applying to be a TSA screener).”
A person can be prosecuted for not disclosing that they worked at WalMart, but Jared Kushner can fail to disclose at least five contacts with a foreign power that is hostile to the United States, and the DOJ is perfectly cool with that.
The American people are sitting back and taking this corruption and hypocrisy. While Jeff Sessions is the nation’s Attorney General, the odds of son in law Kushner being investigated are zero, but Sessions has his own undisclosed contacts with the Russians problem, so he may not be long for his current job.
People want action, and they are going to get it through their government or at the ballot box.
Either way, hard times are coming for Jared Kushner.
