Rachel Maddow Beat Fox News For An Entire Month For The First Time In History

For the first time, The Rachel Maddow Show was the most watched program on cable news for an entire month, as Maddow beat both CNN and Fox News in weekday primetime total viewers in May.

According to a press release provided to PoliticusUSA by MSNBC, “MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” was the #1 show across all cable news in the key A25-54 demo. “The Rachel Maddow Show” scored a monthly win over CNN and FOX News in total viewers at 9 pm – the first time ever in MSNBC’s 20-year history – and for A25-54 it was the 3rd straight monthly win. The program averaged 2.6 million total viewers and 638,000 A25-54 viewers. The re-air of “The Rachel Maddow Show” at 12 am was also #1 in total viewers.”

Rachel Maddow has firmly taken over Bill O’Reilly’s spot as the most watched host on cable news and in the process has made MSNBC the most watched network on cable news and at times the second most watched network behind the NBA playoffs on cable.

The presidency of Donald Trump and the scandals that have followed him into office have been great for The Rachel Maddow Show. Unlike programs on other networks, Maddow spends her nightly show diving deeply into Trump’s scandals, putting the pieces together, and explaining why new information matters.

Dr. Maddow is the most qualified person from a political science point of view hosting a cable news show, and her knowledge shows. Maddow’s ability to ask the reporters who are breaking the big stories on Trump the most important questions has proven to be an asset for her viewers.

Maddow’s show is the rare nightly cable news primetime hour that is informing and putting together information that is coming at a frantic pace in a way that paints an understandable picture of the overall political landscape.

Rachel Maddow’s coverage of the Russia scandal has been relentless, and her tenacity has led MSNBC to history making month of ratings.
