House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) warned that the Russia scandal goes way beyond Trump. He added that a lot of people might have legal problems with this scandal, but people should lose of Russia’s interference with our democracy.

Rep. Cummings said, “My impression when I walked out of the briefing was that this thing runs deep. In other words, I think that there may be quite a few people that may have some problems with the law with regards to this whole incident, but we gotta stay focused. Impeachment is one thing, but George we gotta concentrate on the fact that the Russians interfered with our election. And I keep telling people, don’t get so caught up in impeachment that you forget about that, because I’m telling you that’s something that goes to the very heart of our democracy. And we can’t have people in Russia determining who will be the President Of The United States, and what policies will be pursued. No. We can not have that.”
People on the left and the middle want rid of Trump so badly that they are increasingly focused more on impeachment and less on the crime itself. Even if the country rids itself of Trump, if the United States doesn’t take steps to prevent Russia from hacking the next election, they will do it again, and again, and again.
Cummings’s point was that more people than Trump were involved.
The scandal is about more than Trump impeachment. It is bigger than the President Of The United States. The future of US democracy is riding on how this investigation is handled and what steps are taken in the aftermath.
