Trump’s joint press conference with the Colombian president did severe damage to his presidency, as Trump bashed the special counsel investigation while trying to distance himself from the Russia scandal and offering delusional answers like everyone in America thinks the idea of impeaching him is ridiculous.
Trump on collusion with Russia:
Trump said, “The entire thing has been a witch hunt. There is no collusion between certainly myself and my campaign, but I can only speak for myself and the Russians. Zero. I think it divides the country. I think it divides the country between that and a lot of things.”
The President denied asking Comey to drop the Flynn investigation:
Trump tersely said, “No. No. Next question.”
Trump also claimed that the entire country thinks impeaching him is ridiculous, and repeated his lie about Comey being unpopular in the FBI:
It would difficult to find a presidential press conference performance that was worse than this one.
Trump is being consumed by the Russia scandal and veering completely out of control. If his press conference was meant to reassure the country or get his White House back on stable footing, it didn’t work. The whole event was a train wreck that should inspire a whole new batch of questions for those who are investigating the Russia scandal.
