As Republicans Melt Down, House Democrats Set A Staggering Grassroots Fundraising Record

House Democrats have already raised more money in the first four months of Trump’s presidency than they did during the entire year of 2015, as people are getting engaged and involved in taking back the House in 2018.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee told NBC News that they have raised $20 million since the start of the year. The average contribution size is $18, and their fundraising haul is bigger than the amount they raised for the entire year in 2015.

DCCC spokesman Tyler Law said, “The DCCC is actively building the largest battleground in a decade, and that’s a testament to the grassroots energy that we’re witnessing every day, in every corner of America. Our record smashing grassroots, online fundraising haul is further evidence that House Democrats are on offense while Republicans are in a full meltdown.”

The DSCC also added 156,00 new online donors since Trump took office.

The money matters because the more money House Democrats race, the more races they can adequately fund and compete in. Beyond cash, how the money is being raised is a big red flag for Republicans. Democrats are engaged. There is a perception that during the Obama years some Democrats didn’t take midterm elections seriously. Much has been written about how a sizable portion of the Democratic base showed up to vote in 2008 and 2012 but tuned out in other years.

As signs of Republican apathy grow, Democrats engaged and enraged.
