Nancy Pelosi Just Backed Paul Ryan Into A Major Corner On The Russia Scandal

Democratic House Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi made a move to tie Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to the Russia scandal by requesting that Ryan insists that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein brief the House on the Comey firing.

In a letter to Speaker Ryan, Rep. Pelosi wrote:
In the days since the firing of Director Comey, there has been a distressing disparity of information being made available to the Senate but not to the House.

This week, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to brief the full Senate on his knowledge of and his role in the firing of the FBI Director. Director Comey has also been invited to testify before the Senate, but not before the House.

I hope that you will insist that Rosenstein brief and answer questions from the full House. I hope you will also insist that Director Comey be accountable to the House as well as the Senate in his presentation.

The people’s representatives on both sides of the Capitol must have the opportunity to hear from and interrogate the key figures in the FBI Director’s firing. The American people deserve to know the truth.

Ryan and the other House Republicans have a choice. They can either keep on defending Trump and go down with an increasingly sinking Republican ship, or they can show some spine and want to get the facts behind the Comey firing.

Pelosi’s letter is all about forcing the House Republicans to choose. Every time a Republican in Congress thinks they can support and enable Trump without paying the price, they take another step closer to losing their seat.

Democrats aren’t going to let Ryan cover and enable Trump with no consequences. Pelosi has outsmarted Ryan and is using the Comey firing to drive a wedge between the House Republicans and Trump.

It is smart politics that could pay big dividends even before the 2018 midterms
