Trump Administration Quoted Clinton Campaign Literature In Letter Explaining Comey Firing

Just when this day couldn’t get any more bizarre, it does.

On MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes, former spokesperson for the Clinton campaign Karen Finney revealed that the letter written by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein pulls information from the former Democratic nominee’s campaign literature in order to justify James Comey’s firing.

Video:

Finney said, “So the quotes that are in the letter from the deputy attorney general to Sessions actually cites some of the same quotes (from the Clinton documents)” in order to explain the administration’s reasoning behind Comey’s termination.

A stunned Chris Hayes says, “This is really remarkable. … He’s citing the same reasons from the Hillary Clinton campaign document, like actually the same quotes?”

Finney responded, “Yes, and also using some of the same quotes that folks like Alberto Gonzales and Mike Mukasey and former Attorney General Holder used at the time, so I find that very ironic.”

That’s an understatement.

What this really boils down to is that, after months of praising Comey’s handling of Hillary Clinton email’s investigation, the Trump administration was so desperate to fire the FBI director that they used Clinton campaign material as a phony way to justify it – Clinton campaign material from last year that has no bearing on what’s happening in the current FBI investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia.

Nobody is buying the administration’s lie that this has anything to do with the non-scandal surrounding Clinton’s email use. The president didn’t suddenly wake up and decide that the former Democratic nominee wasn’t being treated fairly.

Instead, it’s likely the White House is growing increasingly worried about the direction of this investigation and are hoping to throw it off track by making the historic decision to fire the FBI director – the man running said investigation.
