One Pennsylvania Voter’s Comments On Health Care Show Why Trump And The GOP Are Screwed

CBS’s Face The Nation held a focus group of Pennsylvania voters and the message that Trumpcare is going to take away health care for people with pre-existing conditions has already penetrated the public discussions. Republicans and Trump are screwed because many voters have already linked them with taking away health care.

Via CBS’s Face The Nation:

JOHN DICKERSON: Eliza, what would you like to see happen with health care?

ELIZA: I personally want to see a Medicare for all– or a single payer option. I believe that that polls very high actually among the American people we have right now have the ACA, the Affordable Care Act. For now, I mean, that at least needs to stay intact. What the Republicans are planning to do right now is upsetting to me and many people– because it basically would take away health care for people with pre-existing conditions. Or, you know, just outright deny, allow them to deny, or push premiums up.

Remember what happened to Democrats on Obamacare before the 2010 midterm elections?

Republicans were able to define Obamacare as negative before Democrats could react and voters swept House Democrats out of office in the midterm elections.

The same thing appears to be happening with Republicans and Trumpcare. As soon as Trump and the House Freedom Caucus modified the bill to take away coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. Democrats went on the attack, and have now defined the law as taking away or weakening coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. 130 million Americans have a pre-existing condition. That is a large group pf potential to have angry at an incumbent party before a midterm election.

There is no way that a final health care bill passes the House unless it takes away or weakens coverage for those with pre-existing conditions.

Republicans and Trump look to be completely screwed. Either they harm people with pre-existing conditions and face a potential slaughter in 2018, or they listen to voters and stop messing with coverage for pre-existing conditions and outrage the far-right conservatives in the House.

Either way, it may be too late. Voters have caught on to what Republicans are up to, and they are getting ready to vent their rage.
