As Republicans pat each other on the back during their post-health care vote frat party on Capitol Hill, Americans in the real world are quickly mobilizing to defeat vulnerable GOP candidates who voted in favor the disastrous legislation.
According to a tweet from progressive group Swing Left, the liberal organization has raised a whopping $500,000 in 24 hours to defeat Republicans in 2018.
Tweet:
While this is an impressive haul in such a short period of time, it’s showing no signs of letting up.
As The Hill noted on Thursday, $150,000 of the half a million total poured in during the first hour following today’s vote in the House of Representatives. Over the course of the next several days, the progressive organization is likely to raise hundreds of thousands more in support of Democratic candidates in competitive districts.
Swing Left is targeting 35 districts specifically, which they say are currently represented by vulnerable Republicans who voted in favor of Trumpcare.
The grassroots, anti-Trump resistance was already motivated against the president and his Republican allies in Congress. They were likely already planning to turn out in big numbers in 2018 to send a message to the GOP that their agenda is not the people’s agenda.
Thursday’s vote in favor of destroying health care for millions of Americans is only adding fuel to the fire – and things will only get worse for Republicans as they continue to walk the politically suicidal path to repealing the Affordable Care Act.
