12 Arrested Outside The White House As The Resistance Protests Trump’s Budget

A dozen people were arrested as more than one thousand members of The Resistance protested the Trump budget’s massive cuts to social programs and funding for his wall with Mexico.

Video of the protest:

According to a statement from the group People’s Action that was provided to PoliticusUSA, “More than a thousand protesters from throughout the country were outside the White House today, Tuesday, at 9 a.m. to protest Trump’s budget, which includes huge cuts to working class families to finance a massive wall on the border of the US and Mexico. Twelve people, including People’s Action Co-Director George Goehl and activists from Springfield Massachusetts, Chicago, Ill., and New York.”

Sonny Garcia was one of 12 arrested today in protest of the attacks. Of the arrest, he said, “The Trump agenda will harm families, working people, and students – people who are already struggling. That’s why today I was arrested in front of the White House — we can’t afford more attacks on immigrant families and everyday working Americans”

The protest outside the White House was an act of resistance in one of its purest forms. Good people aren’t going to ignore the massive cuts that Republicans and Donald Trump are trying to carry out against millions of working class, poor, disabled, seniors and children in the United States.

Harming the most vulnerable to provide tax cuts to the wealthiest among us and corporations is not the American way. The American Dream is being crushed by a Republican ideology that believes that the people at the top should have even more, as the rungs of the ladder of success get sawed out from under everyone else.

Activists are doing more than speaking out. They are getting arrested, and these individuals are heroes of a movement against a president and party that doesn’t represent the values of a majority of this country.
