Trump’s Former Virginia Chair Goes Full-On Racist Confederate in Bid for Governor

Chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors and former Chair of Virginia for Trump Corey Stewart has decided he wants to be governor of Virginia, and he’s going full-on racist Confederate to do it.

We all remember Trump supporters proudly unfurling the Confederate flag at a Trump rally in Orlando, Florida. It should not come as a surprise that Trump’s own man in Virginia should embrace it as well as part of his campaign.

The Toronto Star‘s intrepid Trump fact-checker Daniel Dale tweeted about this unapologetic claim to the Confederacy’s avowedly racist heritage:

This did not escape the notice of former Guantanamo prosecutor Col. Morris Davis, who tweeted

Stewart is a liar. The Confederate flag he is waving to be governor of an American state is not only the wrong flag, it is a flag as steeped in evil as the Nazi swastika flag.

Stewart and other Republicans can pretend that the flag represents states rights, but the right in question was the right to own slaves – other human beings – as property.

In the words of the man who designed the flag Stewart is standing so proudly beside, it is all about white supremacy:

“As a people we are fighting to maintain the heavenly ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause. Such a flag would be a suitable emblem of our young confederacy, and sustained by the brave hearts and strong arms of the south, it would soon take rank among the proudest ensigns of the nations, and be hailed by the civilized world as THE WHITE MAN’S FLAG.”

So there you have it. Corey Stewart holding the “white man’s flag,” and inspired to do so by Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed best friend of black folks have ever had.
