Trump’s Top Medicaid Doctor Defies The White House By Opposing Obamacare Replacement

The top Medicaid doctor in the Trump administration has broken with HHS Secretary Tom Price, President Trump, and the Congressional Republican leadership by opposing the Republican Obamacare replacement plan.

Dr. Andrey Ostrovsky tweeted:

Dr. Ostrovsky is the top Medicaid doctor at HHS, which means that a top health care official in the Executive Branch of the federal government has come out against the Obamacare replacement plan that President Trump has embraced.

One of the organizations that Dr. Ostrovsky referenced in his tweet American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP), who in a letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chair Rep. Kevin Brady expressed their concerns about TrumpCare, “The AAFP is concerned that your proposal falls short of this objective and will result in millions of currently insured individuals losing their health care coverage, including those who currently have employer-based coverage. We are equally concerned that the phased-in implementation outlined in your proposal will destabilize insurance markets over the next three years and directly harm millions of people. We strongly disagree with statements that suggest the AHCA will provide every American “access to health care coverage.” “Access to health care coverage” is distinctly different than “securing health care coverage.” The AAFP’s goal is to ensure that every American “secures health care coverage.”

Doctors and hospitals have good reason to be worried about this legislation. The Obamacare replacement puts back into place the dynamic of health insurance companies having control over the care that doctors can provide. Instead of a mandated level of services that have to be covered, TrumpCare firmly puts the insurance companies back in charge.

Not only will patients pay more for less coverage, but the Republican plan is anything but “patient-centered.”

When a top doctor within the Executive Branch of the federal government is opposing the Republican Obamacare replacement, it’s a sign of a bad bill that deserves to die a quick death.
