Trump Goes Soft On Bigots While Offering No Plan To Combat Attacks On Jewish Centers

President Trump began his speech to the joint session of Congress with a weak and general condemnation of the threats and attacks on Jewish community centers and cemeteries.

The President began his speech by saying, “Tonight, as we mark the conclusion of our celebration of Black History Month, we are reminded of our Nation’s path toward civil rights and the work that still remains. Recent threats targeting Jewish Community Centers and vandalism of Jewish cemeteries, as well as last week’s shooting in Kansas City, remind us that while we may be a Nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil in all its forms.”

Trump’s remarks were a far cry from what many Jewish groups have been urging the President to say.

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said, “It is incumbent upon the White House to immediately clarify these remarks. In light of the ongoing attacks on the Jewish community, it is also incumbent upon the President to lay out in his speech tonight his plans for what the federal government will do to address this rash of anti-Semitic incidents.”

Trump did no such thing. Instead, he offered no plan, just a weak condemnation.

This is not the presidential leadership that Jewish-Americans were hoping for. Trump failed a simple test of leadership and human decency.
