CNN Defends Their Reporter And Is Refusing To Apologize To Press Bully Trump

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 09:49 pm

After Trump press secretary Sean Spicer demanded an apology from CNN, the network responded by defending their reporter and making it clear that Trump and his administration aren’t going to be able to bully the press.

Spicer demanded an apology on Fox News, “The idea that he took no responsibility for his behavior was highly unacceptable and inappropriate, and he does owe us and his fellow members of the press corps an apology for his behavior.”

CNN responded with a statement that defended Jim Acosta, “Being persistent and asking tough questions is his job, and he has our complete support. As we have learned many times, just because Sean Spicer says something doesn’t make it true. Jim Acosta is a veteran reporter with the utmost integrity and extensive experience in covering both the White House and the President-elect.”

That is a big no from CNN on the request for an apology. The entitlement behind what the Trump team is suggesting is striking. Trump thinks that he is allowed to call media garbage and fake news, but reporters and networks must apologize if they defend themselves.

The reality is that even though he is president, Donald Trump needs the media. Every American doesn’t follow his Twitter account. CNN’s stance should be emulated by every media organization in the United States. When Trump treats people or the press with disrespect, he and his administration should expect the same treatment to be returned.

Cable news was Charmin soft on Trump during the campaign. They enabled and helped to create the freedom of the press disrespecting monster that will be occupying the White House.

CNN was right to take a stand and defend their reporter. The problem is that cable news should have shown some sign of a backbone 18 months ago.
