Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday night to lash out after United Steelworkers leader Chuck Jones said the president-elect only “half-way delivered” on his promise to keep all Carrier jobs from being shipped out of the United States.
Tweets:
The reason the thin-skinned president-elect is so angry is because the union leader dropped a major truth bomb about Trump’s recent PR stunt with Carrier.
“You half-way delivered,” Jones said on CNN, citing Trump’s promise to keep all jobs from being shipped to Mexico. “We expect you go back and keep all the jobs.”
Despite Trump’s vow, Carrier is still outsourcing almost 600 jobs across the southern border next year.
Jones also called out Trump for repeatedly misleading Americans about the number of jobs that were kept in Indiana. The president-elect keeps claiming that he saved 1,100 jobs, but 300 of those were never at risk of moving to Mexico.
“He’s lying his a– off,” the union leader said. “That’s not just my feeling. The numbers prove he’s lying his a– off. It’s a damn shame when you come in and make false statements like that.”
While Trump used his tweets to attack Jones for driving business to other countries, the president-elect made no mention of the fact that his own companies often choose to abandon American workers and invest in Chinese steel.
According to an October report in Newsweek:
A Newsweek investigation has found that in at least two of Trump’s last three construction projects, Trump opted to purchase his steel and aluminum from Chinese manufacturers rather than United States corporations based in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. In other instances, he abandoned steel altogether, instead choosing the far-less-expensive option of buying concrete from various companies, including some linked to the Luchese and Genovese crime families.
Despite his efforts to convince people that he’s a blue-collar champion, Trump has spent an entire business career disregarding and often hurting American workers.
His latest Twitter tantrum proves that he isn’t too fond of people who call him out for it.
