Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has a piece of advice for Democrats who are discouraged about Donald Trump’s electoral victory on Tuesday: “Stand your ground and fight back.”
Video:
We are not turning this country over to what Donald Trump has sold,” she said in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “We are just not.”
Warren said that the results were certainly unexpected, but Democrats should not spend the next four years wallowing in sorrow about Trump being president. In fact, now is when those who didn’t vote for Trump should be most active to ensure that his dangerous campaign promises don’t see the light of day.
She urges Democrats to stay in the fight and get involved by volunteering at Planned Parenthood or other organizations advocating for important causes, like the environment, immigrants, economic justice, and financial reform.
Speaking about the continuing anti-Trump protests, Warren said that people are “right to be upset.”
She added: “What happened on Tuesday, we can let our country head in that direction – in the direction that Donald Trump offered in his campaign – or we can say ‘We are a better people than that.'”
Warren may have just given discouraged progressives the jolt they need to dust themselves off and stay engaged. It’s more important now – and over the next four years – than it ever has been.
