A Painful Election Will Lead to Positive Results If Everyone Gets Out to Vote

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 09:30 pm

This has been a painful election to cover.

At times I haven’t been sure I could continue. I know I’m not alone in those feelings because I read your messages and tweets, and I could feel the horror and outrage growing into an eventual numbness, which manifested as a choked silence that dominated the last few months.

There was nothing to do at times but walk away. I watched as brave people I love retreated from the toxic gas of hate. There was no place to turn, no solace to be found.

These reactions followed each time Donald Trump took another step into terrorizing the citizens of this country.

But here we are. We have all made it. It’s the night before the election… And suddenly all of the struggle is coming to fruition.

Hillary Clinton has about a 90 percent chance of defeating Republican Donald Trump, according to the final Reuters/Ipsos States of the Nation project.

Politicus’ Jason Easley has Clinton likely to win 321 electoral votes, with 265 the best case scenario for Trump which means even at his best, Clinton gets 273. Easley has 355 as the best case scenario for Clinton.

I hope you all can feel the hope and pride in these numbers, and that you know your country is better than Donald Trump. Everything people have given up to make this happen mattered — including Republicans who’ve had to turn their backs on their party’s nominee and Independents and far left liberals, Democrats who’ve bitten their tongue over and over again in order to maintain the peace, and the fights with your family or friends. All of you who are standing together to say No to hate, you are incredible.

You all are what kept me going.

So thank you.

I won’t reiterate the list of Trump offenses because now is a time for thinking about all that is possible. Now is the time to close the door on the trolling of America, and open the windows for some fresh air. It’s time to breathe deeply and know that tomorrow morning, we are each going to do all that we can to protect the liberty of our fellow citizens.

It’s time to come together, Republican and Democrat, to say No to Donald Trump and all that he represents.

We have made it this far, and the numbers look good for tomorrow. This means that love of country has a good chance of winning tomorrow, as Americans get set to reject the politics of hate.

We are an imperfect nation full of challenges and problems, but we are so much better than Donald Trump. And tomorrow evening, if all goes as the numbers indicate, he will know that and you will know that. And you will sleep better for it.

The fight for democracy never ends, it burns through us and new monsters rise up to test it. But together, we are so close to slaying this dragon.

We must keep our eye on the ball until we cross the finish line.

Tonight, as you face your anxieties about the possibilities, remember these numbers and know that your fellow citizens are better than you feared and so much stronger when looking out for each other. Stay calm and keep going forward. Send a message that no one can misinterpret.

Let’s do this thing.
