The latest Gallup tracking poll shows President Obama’s approval rating is soaring just in time for the Nov. 8 election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
According to Gallup, 57 percent of Americans believe the current president is doing a good job – his best marks since just after his 2012 re-election.
The tweet below by Republican pollster Frank Luntz shows how Obama stacks up with the approval rating of recent presidents at the same point in their second terms. While the current president ties Bill Clinton, he easily beats Republican hero Ronald Reagan.
The number is stunning in the heat of a divisive election season and even more so given how polarizing U.S. politics has become.
As Americans prepare to vote in an election between a candidate, Hillary Clinton, who wants to build on Obama’s progress and another, Donald Trump, who wants to dismantle it, it’s clear that this will bode well for the Democratic nominee.
It’s also obvious that Trump’s claim – most recently made in the third presidential debate – that Clinton represents a third Obama term is only going to help the Democratic nominee’s chances when voters head to the polls in just over two weeks.
