Hillary Clinton just gave Democrats an after school special starring Al Gore on the dangers of taking anything for granted, and not voting.
Video:
Former vice president Gore said, “Some of you who are younger than 25, you might not remember the election of 2000 and what happened here in Florida, and across the country. For those of you older than 25, I heard you murmuring just now, but take it from me, it was a very close election.”
The crowd interrupted him with a loud chant of you won, and Hillary Clinton seated behind him, shook her head yes.
Gore continued, “But here’s my point, I don’t want you to be in a position years from now where you welcome Hillary Clinton and say actually, you did win, it was just wasn’t close enough to make sure that all the votes were counted, or whatever.
The former vice president later added, “Your vote really, really, really counts a lot. You can consider me as an Exhibit A for that truth.”
Having Gore campaign with her in Florida was a brilliant move by the Clinton campaign. It could be argued that with Donald Trump lighting himself on fire on a nearly daily basis, Clinton’s biggest obstacle to victory is Democratic complacency.
Al Gore is a walking, talking, living, breathing reminder of what can happen to Democrats when they don’t do every single thing they can to win. Things look rough for Trump at the moment, but his core base of support will show up to vote.
If Democrats want to win, as Al Gore said, they need to remember how important their vote is, and more importantly, the consequences of taking anything for granted.
