Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) is maintaining his public endorsement of Donald Trump, while privately trying to get the Republican presidential nominee off of the ticket.
CNN reported:
Ryan has so far refused to pull his endorsement of Donald Trump, but he is working behind the scenes to get Trump to drop out.
The cowardice of the Republican Party has reached a new low. Paul Ryan, who is the highest-ranking elected Republican in the United States, is so scared of the backlash from a relatively tiny mob of people that he is unwilling to publicly do what is right and break with Trump.
The only reason that Ryan hasn’t pulled his endorsement of Trump is that he thinks that dumping Trump will cost Republicans their House majority, but continuing to support Trump could also cost Republicans their House majority. At some point, the issue should be about morality over political calculus.
Speaker Ryan has shown that he has no moral core. He is only capable of viewing the world through partisan politics. Paul Ryan isn’t a leader. He is a hypocrite, who deserves the scorn that he is receiving from Trump supporters, mainstream Republicans, and the rest of the country.
At a time when America needed Republican leaders to get their party under control, they got backstabbing wishy-washy Paul Ryan.
