Republican Senate Candidate Gets Booed By Crowd For Telling Trump To Drop Out

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 09:19 pm

Nevada Republican Senate candidate Rep. Joe Heck withdrew his support and called for Trump to drop out. The Republican crowd responded by booing him.

Video:

Heck said:

My hope is that this will not divide us and that we can unite behind principles. Republican principles. We deserve a candidate that can ask themselves at the end of the day did I live my life with honor and do I deserve to be elected President Of The United States.

I believe our only option is to formally ask Mr. Trump to step down and to allow Republicans the opportunity to elect someone who will provide us with the strong leadership so desperately needed and one that Americans deserve.

Today, I stand here disappointed in our choices for president but more committed than ever to bringing the same code of honor, decency, and respect to the US Senate.

Because he asked that Trump drop out in favor of a candidate with honor, Rep. Heck was booed. The majority of Republican voters don’t want honor, decency, and respect. They want Trump.

Republican candidates, like Joe Heck, have been placed in a classic damned if they do and damned if they don’t situation by Trump. The Trump supporters aren’t going to leave their candidate no matter what he does, and any Republican on the ballot who speaks out against Trump risks losing the base of the Republican electorate.

There was nothing brave about Heck’s call for Trump to drop out. Republicans at every level view replacing Trump as their only chance of victory. If Trump stays on the ballot, the odds are that Republican candidates like Joe Heck are going to lose.

Republicans have a choice between sticking with a presidential candidate who brags about sexual assault, or breaking with him and losing the Republican base. Either way, Democrats win.
