Today, Donald Trump suggested that veterans returning from combat who are struggling with PTSD aren’t “strong” and “can’t handle it.”
Vice President Joe Biden was having none of that at a Hillary Clinton campaign event earlier today in Florida where he lashed out as Trump as “thoroughly and completely uninformed.”
Video:
Biden said:
Where in the hell is he from? No, no, no, no, this is deadly earnest. My son spent a year in Iraq, came back a highly decorated veteran, bronze star and a lot else. I’ve been in and out of Iraq and Afghanistan over 29 times. I found myself in Iraq being asked…to pin a silver medal on a young captain who had pulled someone out of a burning humvee, risking his life, and when I went to pin it on him in front of the entire brigade, he stood and looked at me and said, ‘Sir I don’t want the medal, I don’t want the medal.’ You know why? He said, ‘He died, Mr. Vice President, I don’t want the medal.’ How many nights does that kid go to sleep seeing that image in his head, dealing with it?…I don’t think [Trump] was trying to be mean. He is just so thoroughly, completely uninformed.
Having a son who has personally experienced overseas combat, Biden is uniquely positioned to deliver this blow against Trump, who consistently disparages members of the military and spent his younger adult life doing everything he could to avoid military service.
During a week in which it was revealed that Trump likely avoided paying taxes for decades and as the candidate himself goes on angry tirades about Clinton’s marriage, the Republican nominee’s latest comment about military members is just fuel to the raging dumpster fire of the Trump campaign.
With less than a month to go, Trump is running out of time to turn things around.
