Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was “suspended” by CNN today after the network discovered that he was still being paid by the Trump campaign as a strategist.
“Corey Lewandowski, the former embattled campaign manager for the Trump campaign who joined CNN as a political contributor on June 23rd, has been suspended by the cable news net. The network found out that Lewandowski was still being paid by the Trump campaign, separate from his severance package that he received after leaving his work on the campaign trail,” Mediaite reported.
CNN commentator Lewandowski was pulled from the air after FEC filings revealed that the Trump campaign paid Lewandowski’s Green Monster Consulting business $20,000.00 for “strategy consulting” in July and August.
CNN is calling this a “suspension” most likely for legal and contractual reasons, but in effect, the current Trump advisor has been dumped from the network and is unlikely to return to the air before Election Day.
The network seriously jeopardized their credibility with viewers by hiring Lewandowski and keeping him on the air as a pundit despite the fact that he had signed a non-disclosure agreement with Trump that prohibited him from criticizing the campaign. Lewandowski stayed on CNN’s airwaves even after the network admitted that he was still being paid by the Trump campaign in July.
Lewandowski was still attending Trump campaign events, not as a journalist, and the final straw should have come when the CNN employee was observed in the backstage area working for Donald Trump. Reports surfaced that Lewandowski was advising Trump and talking to the candidate daily, but it took FEC documentation for CNN to finally take action on what everyone else already knew.
Corey Lewandowski was a paid plant for Donald Trump on CNN. The network deserves no praise for suspending Lewandowski because he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place.
UPDATE: CNN is denying the report that Lewandowski was suspended, but is offering no public comment.
