Donald Trump may have traveled south of the border to meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop him from taking his lying ways with him.
In a press conference following the meeting between the two men, Trump said, “We did discuss the wall. We didn’t discuss payment of the wall. That’ll be for a later date.”

It turns out that Trump’s public remarks weren’t consistent – shocker! – with what really happened during the discussion. Trump’s lie even forced Mexico’s president to act as a fact checker.
“At the beginning of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall,” Peña Nieto said in a tweet on Wednesday following the meeting with Trump.
The Republican nominee didn’t like the answer given to him by the Mexican president, so he simply lied and said it never happened. Smooth move.
Hillary Clinton quickly pounded on it via Twitter:
The media coverage following his trip to Mexico has been a disaster for Trump, first because of the fact that Trump choked when given a chance to advocate for his main policy proposals and second because he publicly lied about what he discussed with a world leader, while said leader stood next to him.
Instead of looking presidential, which was clearly the aim of this trip, Trump now looks like a bigger buffoon than before.
