A new report had found more doubts about Melania Trump’s immigration status and her story about her immigration status before she married Donald Trump.
Univision revealed that Melania Trump claimed to have never been married before she married Trump, but that she got a green card by marriage four years before she was married:
In an interview with Larry King Live in 2005 Melania Trump said that she had never been married before meeting Donald Trump.
But, Michael Wildes, an immigration attorney who worked for the Trump Organization, told Univision’s investigative unit that she obtained a green card four years earlier in 2001, “based on marriage.”
Melania and Donald Trump were not married until Jan. 22, 2005 at Bethesda-by-the Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach, Florida.
When asked to explain the marriage discrepancy, Wildes said he would seek clarification, presumably from the Trump Organization. He later sent an email saying “I didn’t hear back, sorry.”
Someone is lying. An anti-Trump super PAC has already filed an FOIA request for Mrs. Trump’s immigration records. Melania Trump’s immigration status would be irrelevant if Donald Trump hadn’t spent much of his time on the presidential campaign trail demonizing immigrants.
There were already concerns about Mrs. Trump’s immigration status when she worked in the United States in 1995, but what is curious about the story is Donald Trump’s silence. Trump has held three rallies in the two days since reporters began asking questions about his wife’s immigration history, and he has not said a word about the story.
The Republican nominee has demonstrated that no perceived slight is too small to get a response from him, so it is odd that a story as large as his wife’s immigration history gets stone cold silence.
Trump has already had one of the worst weeks in the history of presidential campaigns, and the growing story of his wife’s immigration history could undercut all of Trump’s immigrant bashing and send his campaign into a state of total collapse.
