Republicans Nearing A State Of Collapse As The VFW Strongly Condemns Donald Trump

The Veterans of Foreign Wars have issued a statement condemning Trump’s attack on the military Gold Star Kahn family.

In a statement, the VFW said:

Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump has a history of lashing out after being attacked, but to ridicule a Gold Star Mother is out-of-bounds, said the new national commander of the near 1.7 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Auxiliary.

“Election year or not, the VFW will not tolerate anyone berating a Gold Star family member for exercising his or her right of speech or expression,” said Brian Duffy, of Louisville, Ky., who was elected July 27 to lead the nation’s oldest and largest major war veterans organization. There are certain sacrosanct subjects that no amount of wordsmithing can repair once crossed. Giving one’s life to nation is the greatest sacrifice, followed closely by all Gold Star families, who have a right to make their voices heard.”

There is something deeply wrong with a human being who would attack a family that lost their son in combat. The fallout from Trump’s attacks on the Khan family is worsening by the day. The Republican Party has spent decades courting veterans, but Trump may push some vets who would usually vote Republican towards Hillary Clinton in November.

If vets who usually vote Republican abandon the GOP because of Trump, it will be another sign the Republican nominee is causing long-term damage to the party that he is supposed to be leading. Trump’s candidacy is about more than the outcome of the 2016 election. The Republican nominee is burning the party’s bridges with important constituencies.

By choosing to let Trump run wild, Republicans are pushing their party towards a state of national collapse If Trump continues on his current course, the GOP may be reduced to being a regional political party by November.
