Joe Biden slammed Donald Trump on Wednesday in an interview on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’, saying the Republican nominee “knows nothing about foreign policy.”
The vice president’s comments come on a day when Trump essentially asked Russia to commit espionage against the United States.
Video:
Biden said, “The truth is Donald Trump knows nothing about foreign policy, nor should he based on his background. The thing that bothers me is that I don’t see any attempt for him to go out and get people that really know on the Republican side.”
Referring to Trump’s recent comments that he might not defend America’s NATO allies if they were under attack, Biden said the GOP nominee is “playing directly into the hands of a guy (Putin) who says his overarching goal is to break up NATO and fracture Europe.”
If Trump kept his promise not to defend these allies, he would be violating the most critical section of the North Atlantic Treaty (the agreement that established NATO), Article V, which commits each member state to defend the other members in the event of an attack.
“I don’t think [Trump] knows what Article 5 is,” Biden went on to say in the interview. “But if you’re gonna be president of the United States of America, you better know.”
Trump’s repeated comments about Russia would be puzzling but inconsequential if he was still hosting a reality show or driving casinos into the ground. The fact that he is running to be commander-in-chief make them reckless and irresponsible.
And, if you weren’t already terrified, Trump is just days away from receiving top-secret intelligent briefings.
Another day, another opportunity for Donald Trump to show his complete ineptitude when it comes to foreign policy – and, boy, did he seize it.
