President Obama has a message for protesters at Trump rallies. Don’t behave like those who support the Republican nominee.
According to the White House pool report of President Obama’s remarks at a DNC fundraiser, the President said:
So, although I am confident in our abilities to win, I want us to run scared the whole time. That’s point number one.
Point number two is it is very important for us to remind ourselves of who we are and what is best about American democracy, and not slip into some of the bad habits that currently manifest themselves in the other party. We saw in San Jose these protesters starting to pelt stuff on Trump supporters. That’s not what our democracy is about. That’s not what you do. There’s no room for violence. There’s no place for shouting. There’s no room for a politics that fails to at least listen to the other side — even if you vehemently disagree. Because I believe if you’ve got the better argument, you don’t need to do that. Just go out there and organize and persuade.
Whenever I’m in a town hall or an event and I mention something that I really disagree with on the Republican policy, and people start booing when they hear the word “Republican,” I always say — don’t boo, vote! Booing doesn’t do anything. You’re not getting anything done there.
President Obama message should be taken to heart by every protester at a Donald Trump rally in this election. Violence and shouting aren’t going to make our democracy stronger. Our country is at its best when people get organized, participate, and vote.
The best way to oppose Donald Trump isn’t by throwing eggs or punches. The way to beat Trump is to make sure that everyone you know is registered to vote, and that they show up and cast their ballots on Election Day. The only way that Donald Trump will win is if his opponents play the game his way and place their energies into division and hate.
As long as the people who are committed to seeing Trump win, beat him when it counts the most, it doesn’t matter what the Republican nominee says. The left doesn’t need to get dragged down to Trump’s level. Obama was right. The best way to put Donald Trump in his place is to get organized, get active, and vote.
