Donald Trump is already getting desperate. The Republican frontrunner may know that his only chance of winning in November is to divide Democrats, which is why Trump tried to get Sen. Bernie Sanders to run as an Independent.
Trump tweeted:
Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats—both with delegates & otherwise. He should show them, and run as an Independent!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 26, 2016
Let’s run Trump’s tweet through the reality translator:
I can’t win in the fall if Democrats are unified. Unity is unfair!!! The only way I can win is if Bernie Sanders runs as an Independent.
Republicans have tried quite a few moves to divide the Democratic Party over the years. In 2008, once Obama had a big delegate lead, Republicans sang the praises of Hillary Clinton. Republicans like Rush Limbaugh have tried to meddle in Democratic primaries. On the scale of Republican attempts to mess with Democratic loyalty, Trump’s stunt is about a 2 out of 10.
What Republicans fear most is the Democratic unity. The GOP understands that Democratic unity is something that they have no hope of replicating in their party. The only way for Donald Trump to win in November would be if Democratic voters split their vote between two candidates. However, Bernie Sanders is not going to run third party. Sen. Sanders said when he was considering running for president that running as a third party candidate was not viable.
The person who is most likely to run as a third party candidate is Donald Trump.
Sorry, Trump, but Bernie Sanders isn’t going to destroy the Democratic Party so that you can be elected president.
