The NBC News exit poll of New York proved the media wrong. Eighty-five percent of voters said that they will support the Democratic nominee in November.
Eighty-five percent of New York Democratic primary voters in the exit poll say they will definitely or probably vote for Hillary Clinton if she becomes the Democratic presidential nominee.
Just 13 percent of them say they WON’T vote for her.
That’s compared with 26 percent of New York Republicans who say that they wouldn’t vote for Trump if he becomes the GOP nominee.
Hillary Clinton is unifying the Democratic Party earlier and faster than the Clinton/Obama primary of 2008.
A May 2008 CNN exit poll of California found that more than 50% of Clinton supporters said that they would not vote for Barack Obama if he were the Democratic nominee. Thirty-three percent of Clinton supporters said that they would vote for John McCain over Obama, and another seventeen percent said that they would not vote at all.
The Clinton supporters did vote for President Obama, who has enjoyed a very successful two terms in office.
Most of the angst about the ugliness of the Democratic primary has been fueled and encouraged by the media. There is nothing that the corporate press hates more than a civil and issues based election. The media has been thrilled with the last three weeks of fighting between the Democratic candidates, but at the end of the day, the Democrats remain much more unified than the Republicans, and Democratic unity is why the party’s nominee will be favored to win in November.
