Trump In Free Fall After Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski Charged With Battery

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 06:52 pm

Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski has been charged with simple battery for allegedly manhandling a female reporter.

According to The Palm Beach Post, “Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump campaign manager, was charged this morning with misdemeanor battery after allegations of forcefully grabbing a reporter at a Jupiter news conference, town police confirmed this morning….Surveillance footage captured at Trump National, off Donald Ross Road, corroborates Feilds’ claim, the arrest report says.”

The surveillance footage shows Lewandowski grabbing then Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields as she tried to ask Donald Trump a question during the March 8th campaign event.

Watch here via the Boston Globe‘s Twitter account:

“Fields showed police her left forearm which ‘appeared to show a grabbing-type injury,’ according to the investigating officer,” according to a police report cited in the Boston Globe by the AP.

Although Donald Trump has stood by Lewandowski during these accusations and earlier when his own staff tried to stage a coup against him, a Politico investigation found Lewandowski had a long history of “being rough with reporters” and “sexually suggestive with female journalists”:

In interviews with more than 20 sources who have dealt with Lewandowski during his nearly year-long tenure with the Trump campaign and in his previous job with the Koch brothers-backed advocacy group Americans for Prosperity, complaints emerged about Lewandowski being rough with reporters and sexually suggestive with female journalists, while profanely berating conservative officials and co-workers he deemed to be challenging his authority.

Actually, it’s obvious from the above quote, especially the “profanely berating conservative officials and co-workers he deemed to be challenging his authority” part, that Lewandowski is a mini-Trump, and thus perfect for the Trump campaign. So sure, he’s been charged with a misdemeanor, but this is just a taste of things to come.

On May 4th, Lewandowski must appear before a judge. It should be noted that this is the second arrest of a campaign staffer working for a Republican this season. Blake Waggoner, a John Kasich campaign staffer, was arrested in November for allegedly choking and punching a woman and charged with misdemeanor simple assault. Kasich fired Waggoner when the press got wind of the arrest.

Donald Trump and his posse of bullies might have gotten away with this behavior in the private sector, but abusing agents of the free press while running for president is not something the media is going to ignore. Welcome to the real spotlight, Donald Trump.

Update: Trump defends Lewandowski, inaccurately says the tape proves there is nothing to see.
