Ted Cruz Accuses Trump Of Planting Sex Scandal Story As GOP Burns To The Ground

Ted Cruz has responded to a tabloid report that has had multiple extramarital affairs by accusing Donald Trump of planting the story, as the Republican Party is being completely burned to the ground.

During a campaign stop in Wisconsin, Sen. Cruz (R-TX) said, “This National Enquirer story is garbage. It is complete and utter lies. It is a tabloid smear, and it is a smear that has come from Donald Trump and his henchmen.”

The Cruz campaign went into more detail in a Facebook post:

I want to be crystal clear: these attacks are garbage. For Donald J. Trump to enlist his friends at the National Enquirer and his political henchmen to do his bidding shows you that there is no low Donald won’t go.

These smears are completely false, they’re offensive to Heidi and me, they’re offensive to our daughters, and they’re offensive to everyone Donald continues to personally attack.

Donald Trump’s consistently disgraceful behavior is beneath the office we are seeking and we are not going to follow.

Trump’s dirty little baby handed fingerprints were all over the story. The publisher of the National Enquirer is close friends with Trump. It was reported last year that Enquirer staffers were told by management that there would be no sex scandal investigative pieces on Trump during the campaign.

Not a single journalistic outlet has stepped up to verify the Enquirer story. The smear has all of the hallmarks of a Trump attack on an opponent. It is tabloid gossip that appears to have no verified basis in fact. In other words, the attack on Cruz is par for the course for the Trump campaign.

The Republican Party was already teetering on the brink of destruction, but Donald Trump’s heavy-handed attempt to create a sex scandal may have pushed the party over the edge. On a week when dozens were killed and hundreds injured by an ISIS attack in Belgium, the top two candidates for the Republican nomination are fighting over a story in a supermarket tabloid.
