Hillary Clinton continued her Southern dominance in the Democratic primary election by winning Mississippi.
News networks are immediately characterizing Clinton’s win in the state as significant, which is polling speak for Clinton blew Sanders out.
The Mississippi win was another demonstration of the Clinton campaign’s advance strength in organizing the South. Bernie Sanders never stood much of a chance in Mississippi, and Hillary Clinton has gotten another large margin win that boosts the political perception that she is steadily advancing towards the Democratic nomination.
Listen to Sarah Jones and Jason Easley discuss Michigan and Mississippi:
The Clinton Southern strategy has paid dividends. Bernie Sanders has been unable to break through in the South. Sanders has so far been limited to states where white progressives dominate the electorate and caucuses. Clinton won the white vote in Mississippi, but she blew out Bernie Sanders with African-American voters 89%-11%. Hillary Clinton is crushing Sanders with Southern African-American voters, and it is these voters who may carry Clinton to the Democratic nomination.
