Hillary Clinton is on pace to pile up a big margin of victory in South Carolina, as she was quickly declared the winner of first Southern Democratic primary.
The exit polling in South Carolina gave hints of the big result for Hillary Clinton. Sixty-one percent of those polled in South Carolina were African-Americans. By a margin of 70%-9%, voters wanted the Democratic nominee to continue the policies of President Obama. Eighty-two percent of those polled said that they wanted the next president to have experience. Only 13% wanted a president who is an outsider.
The Sanders campaign had been showing signs of moving on from South Carolina. Sen. Sanders isn’t in South Carolina, and he will be in the air on the way to Minnesota when the South Carolina results come in. A big Clinton win was anticipated and expected.
Things could be just as rough for Bernie Sanders on Super Tuesday. Hillary Clinton will be aiming at piling up delegates all through the South. Sen. Sanders did spend $1.5 million in South Carolina, but it was clear early on that he was never gaining traction in the state. The South Carolina result is not a surprise in any way.
