Bernie Sanders used his Nevada concession speech to vow that the billionaires will not be allowed to buy elections.
Video of Sanders’ Nevada concession speech:
Sanders said, “What I think is happening is that as people hear our message, and it’s a tough message because it speaks to the truth of our society today that a lot of people just don’t want to address. And that is the fact that we have a corrupt campaign finance system that is undermining American democracy and must be changed. We will not allow billionaires and their super PACs to continue to buy elections in the United States of America.”
Sen. Sanders repeated his message that the American economy is rigged with nearly all of the income going to the top one-percent. Sanders said that the American people are catching on that the criminal justice system is broken because a kid who gets caught with pot gets a police record, but nothing happens to criminal Wall Street executives.
Sanders went on to say that his campaign has momentum and that he has a good chance to win many of the states on Super Tuesday. Sanders said, “I believe that when Democrats assemble in Philadelphia in July at their convention, we are going to see the results of one of the great political upsets in the history of the United States.”
Sen. Sanders is doing his best to keep enthusiasm high in defeat, but it was telling that he used his speech to take on Wall Street, the corporations, and the billionaires. Both Clinton and Sanders mentioned Citizens United in their speeches. No matter which Democratic presidential candidate wins the party’s nomination, if a Democrat wins the White House, it will mean the end for Citizens United.
Bernie Sanders is trying to win the nomination, but he is also leading a movement to change America. No matter how the election turns out, the movement to stop the billionaires from buying the government is poised for success.
