The Fox Business Debate Is A Complete Disaster For The Republican Party

The Fox Business debate is proving that Republicans are dead set on nominating a candidate that will get crushed by Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders in November.

The bad news for the Republican Party is that the two strongest candidates at the Fox News Republican debate have been Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Trump and Cruz are head and shoulders above the rest of the Republican field. The audience during the Fox News debate was absolutely captivated by the Trump/Cruz birther fight.

Republicans don’t have real positions. Some of the lowlights of the Republican debate included Marco Rubio claiming that he knows that Obama wants to take away all guns; Jeb Bush claimed that America was better off under Jeb Bush, Ben Carson predicted the destruction of America if Democrats win the White House and get a liberal majority on the Supreme Court.

The establishment candidates have all flopped in this debate. Republicans demonstrated that what appeals to their primary voters is a brand of delusional insanity that is so out of touch with the rest of the country that the party has no chance of winning in November. Marco Rubio was forced to make insane claims about gun confiscation to appear electable to primary voters.

Republican voters pulled the establishment nominee to the right both in 2008 and 2012. In 2016, Republican primary voters aren’t pulling an establishment candidate to the right. They are hell bent on nominating a far-right candidate who can’t win. There are a lot of bodies who are taking up space in the Republican primary field, but there are clearly only two candidates with a real shot at winning the nomination.

Donald Trump and Ted Cruz have been dominant in the Fox Business debate, and the news couldn’t be worse for the Republican Party.
