President Obama Shows What Real Family Values Look Like In Bear Grylls Interview

“Really, that’s incredible… and that’s such a statement for family first,” Bear Grylls says to President Barack Obama as the President discusses his tradition of having dinner every night with his family.

“It’s actually my joy, my pleasure,” Obama replies, “because if I’ve had a day of world nonsense, for me to be able to come home, just listen to the girls talk about their day it gives me a whole new perspective and renews me.”

What’s this? Oh, just a preview of a very cool special edition of NBC’s “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” including a candid one-on-one interview with POTUS that will air tonight at 10 PM ET, during which the President and Grylls will trek across the Alaskan wilderness while discussing things like what it means to be a father who just so happens to be president.

Watch this inspiring bit of family first values here:

NBC says, “In this unprecedented telecast, Grylls sojourns across the beautiful Alaskan countryside with the president as the commander-in-chief reveals off-the-script stories. In their intimate conversations, President Obama chats with Grylls about what it means to be a father who happens to be president, his relationship with his wife and children and, like all parents, balancing time between work and home.”
NBC says the President “relished” his time being outside of the confines of D.C. and called his time with Grylls “One of the best days of my presidency.”

They also talked about climate change and the importance of new energy resources against the stunning and topical backdrop of the Alaskan wilderness.

The political class said this President was a lame duck, but in the last year he’s brought home an historic Iran deal, a climate change deal that took aim at global moneyed interests, reset relations with Cuba, and now he’s apparently defining family values as something other than judging other people. Something meaningful. The simple act of ritual and time together — something that the President says is actually recharging for him.

Not bad for a lame duck.

The President of the United States makes time to sit down to dinner with his kids and his wife every night. It’s a bit humbling, but that’s one reason why he’s such an inspirational figure.

The ancient Greeks appreciated the value of balance in our lives, something to ponder as we head into the holiday season.

“Running Wild with Bear Grylls” is produced by Electus and Bear Grylls Ventures.
