Hillary Clinton On Paris Attacks: Terrorists Can’t Stop Our Commitment To Democratic Values

Last updated on September 25th, 2023 at 01:49 pm

Hillary Clinton responded to the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris by saying, “No terrorist attack will ever dim the spirit of the French people or our common commitment to the democratic values we share.”

In a statement, the Democratic frontrunner said, “All our prayers are with the people of France tonight. We must stand side-by-side every step of the way with France and our allies around the world to wage and win the struggle against terrorism and violent extremism. Even in this darkest night, Paris remains the City of Light. No terrorist attack will ever dim the spirit of the French people or our common commitment to the democratic values we share.”

The murder of innocent civilians is not a political football to be tossed around. Clinton was correct. The attacks in Paris were an attack on our common democratic values, which is why the world must stand united against all forms of violent extremism.

All three Democratic presidential candidates have issued statements on the attacks. Sen. Bernie Sanders said, “We are all horrified by the cowardly attacks against innocent civilians in Paris. I offer my sympathy to the victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with the people of France, the first friend of the United States.”

Martin O’Malley said, “My heart breaks as we continue to learn more details about the horrific attacks in Paris tonight. I am praying for the victims and families affected by this violence. We stand with President Obama in condemning this assault on our common humanity. And we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of France — liberté, égalité, and fraternité.”

There should be an interesting discussion at Saturday’s Democratic debate about the broader issue of preventing this kind of senseless violence. It isn’t possible to prevent 100% of all attacks but through the cooperation the global community strides can be made in the fight against violent extremism.

The George W. Bush method of invading and destabilizing unrelated countries has only made the problem worse. The Democrats have the correct strategy. President Obama has put the country on the proper course, and it will be up to Democratic voters to decide which candidate will is best suited to deal with the global terrorist threat.
