If Hillary Clinton is elected President of the United State, Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks (R) doesn’t want to waste any time launching impeachment proceedings against her. In an interview with Matt Murphy on Birmingham’s AM 1070 WAPI radio, Congressman Brooks proclaimed:
And in my judgement, with respect to Hillary Clinton, she will be a unique president if she is elected by the public next November, because the day she’s sworn in is the day that she’s subject to impeachment because she has committed high crimes and misdemeanors.
Brooks wants to launch impeachment proceedings against Hillary Clinton on Inauguration Day. There could hardly be a clearer signal that the GOP’s crusade against Hillary is politically motivated, than a member of Congress suggesting impeachment on day one of her presidency.
The hyper-partisan nature of the Republican House is nothing new. On the day Barack Obama was inaugurated in 2009, GOP members of the House met privately to plot ways to legislatively derail Obama’s chance for success, and to make him a one-term president. While the Republican scheme failed in its efforts to bring down the Obama White House, the intent was clear.
Yet for all the behind the scenes machinations to undermine Obama’s presidency, the 2009 GOP cabal did not quite have the audacity to call for impeaching Obama on the day that he was sworn in. The Republicans in 2009 were at least quiet about their intentions, and not so bold as to telegraph their obvious agenda.
Now, however, with the Republican House dissolving into unbridled chaos, as they search in earnest for a leader, extremists like Mo Brooks feel free to speak their minds with impunity. Brooks will fight Democrats tooth and nail, by any means necessary, including impeachment, because he is part of the new breed of Republicans who view compromise and functioning government as an enemy to his rigid ideology.
For Mo Brooks, Hillary Clinton should be impeached on day one, because regardless of what the American people think, Mo Brooks’ opinion of Hillary Clinton is more important than the voice of the people. Even if she wins a majority of the vote in November 2016, Brooks wants to initiate impeachment proceedings against Hillary Clinton on her first day, because he can’t stand the thought of having to work with her as president.
