Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was trying to save his own hide with a statement about the Benghazi committee today, but what he admitted was that the Select Committee is based on a lie.
McCarthy was reacting to starring in Clinton’s first national campaign ad:
McCarthy confirmed that the ad was correct while he was trying to defend himself by saying, “The mission of the Select Committee on Benghazi is to find the truth — period. The integrity of Chairman Gowdy, the committee and the work they’ve accomplished is beyond reproach. The serious questions Secretary Clinton faces are due entirely to her own decision to put classified information at risk and endanger our national security.”
McCarthy claims that the committee is about finding the truth, but he never explains what truth they are looking for. The only reference he makes involves Hillary Clinton and her emails.
Rep. McCarthy didn’t address the fact that the Committee is supposed to be finding the “truth” about what happened to the four American citizens who died in Benghazi. He didn’t say anything to counter his previous admission that the Benghazi Select Committee is really only concerned with partisan politics.
By not addressing any of the real questions concerning the intentions and purposes of the Committee, McCarthy was admitting the stated purpose of the Select Committee is a lie.
The cat is out of the bag, and no number of dodgy statements from the likely next Speaker can go back in time and restore the great Republican lie.
Kevin McCarthy is only digging himself in deeper by attaching the truth to each of his lies.
