Bobby Jindal Has Decided To Let The GOP Be The Stupid Party After All

A little over two years ago, after Democrat Barack Obama soundly defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal admonished fellow Republicans to “stop being the stupid party”. Jindal’s comments were not only directed at Mitt Romney’s politically tone deaf presidential campaign, but also at insensitive GOP Senate candidates like Todd Akin (MO) and Richard Mourdock (IN) who suffered humiliating defeats in red state races after making inexplicable and unconscionable comments about rape.

In January of 2013, when the Republicans were licking their wounds after the November 2012 election, Governor Jindal was lauded as a voice of reason and a potential savior for the GOP. Jindal criticized his party, arguing that they needed to “stop insulting the intelligence of voters”. He minced no words in pointing out that:

We had a number of Republicans damage the brand this year with offensive and bizarre comments.

However, in the two and a half years since Jindal called on his party to stop being stupid, he apparently forgot to take his own advice. His dogmatic anti-tax obsession has destroyed Louisiana’s economy, leading to a 1.6 billion dollar budget shortfall. While the fiscal mismanagement of his state is evidence enough that he has not heeded his own words, Jindal’s reaction to the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage erases every last shred of doubt that he has forgotten his own advice not to be the stupid party.

On Friday, Jindal became outraged at the Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide. The angry governor stated:

If we want to save some money lets just get rid of the court.

In his disgust with the court’s ruling Jindal lost his mind. Apparently in Bobby’s mind, nothing says “constitutional conservative” quite like trying to eliminate one of the three branches of government. The court must be abolished because they don’t agree with Jindal that bigotry should prevail over the freedom to marry. In his fit of rage, perhaps Governor Jindal overlooked the fact that getting rid of the Supreme Court is a stupid idea.

In trying to run for president, Bobby Jindal must have decided to give up his fight to keep the Republicans from being the stupid party. Instead he has chosen to lead the charge. Apparently he has calculated his odds, and concluded that the best way to appeal to GOP voters is to present himself as the one candidate who is even stupider than Donald Trump , Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee.

Bobby Jindal was right in 2013. The Republican Party does need to stop being the stupid party. Unfortunately, Governor Jindal is not taking his own advice. His suggestion that we should get rid of the Supreme Court is evidence that the Republican Party is still the stupid party, and Bobby Jindal fits right in.
