Andy Shain, political reporter for The State, tweeted this heartbreaking picture of Clementa Pinckney’s daughters’ dear daddy messages to their father in his funeral service program:
And from Reverend and state Senator Pinckney’s widow, “I feel robbed, cheated and cut short.”
Family photos from the program:
The cover for the program, as shared by the same reporter:
Everyone in this nation should be forced to read “Dear Daddy, I know you were shot at the Church and you went to Heaven” before allowing the NRA to silence any discussion on reasonable gun safety legislation. The same NRA that blamed the Democratic state Senator for his own death and the death of the other eight innocents in church.
Conservatives will claim that to read these programs is to “politicize” this horror, but these programs contain the truth that must not be denied any longer. Guns take the lives of good people, stealing parents and children from their loved ones. This truth must be faced squarely as we deal with gun legislation, instead of allowing the NRA to hijack every discussion with fear-mongering and lies.
Clementa Pinckney was a great man. A man of public service who used his faith for good. He was taken too soon by an act of terrorism based on racial hatred.
This needs to end. We must be better than this.
