Bernie Sanders Takes On The Koch Brothers By Confirming That He Is Running For President

Last updated on September 25th, 2023 at 01:41 pm

In an interview with the AP, Sen. Bernie Sanders made it official. The Senator from Vermont announced that he is running for president in 2016.

The AP quoted Sanders as saying:

“People should not underestimate me. I’ve run outside of the two-party system, defeating Democrats and Republicans, taking on big-money candidates and, you know, I think the message that has resonated in Vermont is a message that can resonate all over this country.”

….

“What we have seen is that while the average person is working longer hours for lower wages, we have seen a huge increase in income and wealth inequality, which is now reaching obscene levels,” Sanders told the AP.

“This is a rigged economy, which works for the rich and the powerful and is not working for ordinary Americans. … You know, this country just does not belong to a handful of billionaires.”

Sen. Sanders vowed to fight income inequality, and his specific calling out of the billionaires just changed the tone of the race for the Democratic nomination. To her credit, former Sec. of State Clinton has also called out billionaires like the Koch brothers, and she recently voiced support for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

The presence of Bernie Sanders in the Democratic field means that middle-class issues are going to get a chance to be debated. Hillary Clinton has done a great job with her campaign roll out, but she hasn’t had an opponent to contrast herself to. Now, she does.

Bernie Sanders brings a healthy dose of old school liberalism to the 2016 election. Millions of Americans are about to have the issues discussed that matter most to them. Sen. Sanders may not win the Democratic nomination, but he will make the primary season much more interesting and substantive.

The Koch brothers are about to get what they never wanted. Bernie Sanders is going to draw attention to their oligarchic plot to buy the government.
