Many Americans were grossly mistaken when they imagined, or rather hoped, that this nation’s abhorrent racist leanings were a thing of the past because an African American man was elected President in 2008. If anything, the election of Barack Obama revealed that, although the blatant discrimination against people of color by government fiat was diminished, the underlying hatred and seething contempt for African Americans was still alive in the white population; particularly the conservative segment of the population. Throughout the Republican presidential primary, and general election campaign of 2012, it was clearly evident that Republicans are a racist party based on campaign speeches from every Republican candidate.
Republicans can hardly claim they are not the party of white people, and in fact, it was Republican Senator Lindsey Graham who told the Washington Post that “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.” Admittedly, Graham revealed that part and parcel of the Republican electoral agenda is pandering to racists and white supremacists, and this week it was revealed that the third ranking Republican in the House of Representatives is guilty of pandering to a white supremacist extremist organization founded by former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke.
The Republican from Louisiana, Representative Steve Scalise, is the House majority whip, and he finally admitted yesterday that he did appear at an international white supremacist conference in 2002 as an “honored guest and speaker.” The organization is the brainchild of avowed white supremacist David Duke with an innocent-sounding name European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO). Prior to adopting the name EURO, Duke’s white supremacist organization was called the National Organization for European American Rights (NOFEAR), and was proudly touted as a “civil rights” organization fighting the alleged “massive discrimination” faced by whites from the nation’s growing population of minorities. The Southern Poverty Law Center has well-documented the hate-group’s white supremacist statements such as “Jewish media attack us for wanting to restore White America, and they are largely responsible for the ‘browning’ of America. The Jews want to rule over a multi-racial brown America that is too ignorant to ever rebel against them.”
Like NOFEAR, EURO “was and still is a recognized hate group” promoting racist, bigoted, anti-Semitic propaganda, and worse, it considers the “white race” to be genetically, culturally, intellectually, physically, and spiritually superior to all others; it is the definition of racism. In fact, a EURO article bemoans the “multi-racial cesspool” that ruined “beautiful Germany where blonde children once happily ran through every village which used to be clean and safe.” The article predicted that Germans will grow tired of the politically correct state that is destroying their lives and revert back to what many Republicans and conservatives yearn for in America; an Aryan population. It is noteworthy that the term “politically correct” to white supremacists is a nation founded on tolerance and a multi-cultural society white supremacists cannot tolerate.
According to Scalise’s spokesperson, he could not possibly have known that a group led by a former KKK leader like David Duke was a racist organization, and if he did would have never appeared as an honored guest and speaker. Scalise is as much liar as he is racist. The propaganda from the white supremacist group boasted that the “national convention” was a convergence of ideas represented by Americans concerned over the increasingly diminishing view of individual liberty for whites. After the conference, EURO boasted that “the meeting was productive as Representative Steve Scalise discussed ways to oversee gross mismanagement of ‘slush funds’ that have little or no use,” and “brought into sharp focus the dire circumstances pervasive in under-funded needs of the community at the expense of graft within the Housing and Urban Development Fund (HUD): a give-away to a selective group based on race.”
A white supremacist leader claimed the group was so impressed by Representative Scalise’s apparent characterization of the Housing and Urban Development Fund as a scam to give-away public monies to “a selective group based on race” they thought his run for the House was worth supporting. EURO noted that Scalise was running for the U.S. House and reminded Louisiana attendees that they should remember that Scalise offered his undying support for issues that are of concern to them. Scalise’s undying support was for issues like “individual liberty for whites and the genetic, cultural, intellectual, physical, and spiritual superiority of whites over all others,” and his opposition to scam to giving away money to a “selective group based on race.”
It is the same rhetoric from the likes of 2012 Republican presidential primary candidate Rick Santorum bemoaning the Obama Administration “giving away other people’s (white) money to ‘blaah people,” or Willard Romney speaking to the NAACP and telling them that if they just want “more free stuff” to go vote for “that other guy.” Now, Scalise is the third ranking Republican in the House and regardless his protestations to the contrary; he is as much a racist today as he was in 2002.
Racism is not an affliction that magically vanishes, and Scalise’s assertion he was unaware of EURO’s racist founding is a dirty lie. Scalise is, like KKK leader David Duke, from Louisiana where Duke proceeded Scalise as a state representative and was a Republican candidate for governor. There are few Americans, much less Louisiana residents, who either were, or are now, unaware that David Duke is an avowed white supremacist and a former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan; a typical Republican.
The GOP has demonstrated, since the 2008 presidential campaign, that it is the party of racists regardless their claims to the contrary. Republicans have assailed President Obama as a foreigner, not like us, the other, a Kenyan, and according to Willard Romney’s campaign; needs to learn to be American. Translation; a Black man is not American. This blatant racism has continued unabated as evidenced by Republican Paul Ryan’s assertion last summer that African Americans need to learn the value and culture of hard work, or conservative and Republican pundits labelling all African American males as “thugs;” particularly those celebrities President Obama invited to the White House.
There is no cure for racism (at least none that can be discussed in a public forum) because it is a learned affliction that has been passed on from generation to generation. Oh it is true that racists, particularly those in the former Confederacy, love their Black athletes, but the second they take off their uniforms and dog-forbid express their opinions, they are just criminal thugs unworthy of their Constitutional right of free speech. President Obama recently related that talking about race relations is healthy for the nation, but sadly talking is no remedy for a vile epidemic that is taking this country precariously close to what white supremacists’ lust for more that individual white liberty; a race war. Something Republicans are inciting to, as Lindsey Graham said, “generate enough more angry white guys to stay in business” ruling over a white America; and now they have an “honored guest” of white supremacists as their number three man in the House of Representatives.
