After an eight hour siege during which terrorists attacked an Army Public School in Pakistan massacring children and teachers, reportedly killing 135 mostly children and injuring 114, President Obama strongly condemned their depravity and reiterated the commitment of the United States government in supporting the government of Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.
“The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms today’s horrific attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar, Pakistan. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and loved ones,” the President said in a statement. “By targeting students and teachers in this heinous attack, terrorists have once again shown their depravity.”
Reddif reports the terrorists who stormed the school were “heavily-armed Taliban suicide bombers”.
Secretary of State John Kerry speaking in London war reported by the Guardian to have said, “(W)herever you live, wherever you are, those are our children and this is the world’s loss,” and called the attacks “absolutely gut wrenching.”
Reddif reported Tuesday morning that all six of the Taliban terrorists dead.
“The combat operation is over, the security personnel are carrying out clearance operation and hopefully they will clear the building in a while,” said police official Abdullah Khan.
Health Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mustaq Jadoon said that the death toll has risen to 135 with 114 injured.
President Obama reiterated the commitment of the United States to support Pakistan in its efforts to fight terrorism, concluding his statement with, “We stand with the people of Pakistan, and reiterate the commitment of the United States to support the Government of Pakistan in its efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and to promote peace and stability in the region.”
